Family-run hire company Nixon Hire has opened its newest depot in Inverness, the seventeenth to date. Now employing over 250 people through out Northern England and Scotland, Nixon Hire serves a number of hire sectors, which include plant and tool, accommodation, toilets and event hire etc.

One of the contributing factors to Nixon Hire’s success is the company’s pioneering approach to technology. The technology that has made a big difference to their business is their hire management solution from MCS. Nixon Hire IT Manager David Balmer comments on the contribution played by the MCS software: “Installing MCS-rm in the business has given us the benefit of a powerful Microsoft Windows based system and has become an indispensible component of the business. It’s used by around 70 of our staff and manages all our hire contracts, invoices and purchase orders as well as many other aspects of the business”.

Nixon Hire innovative approach to business and their commitment to quality service have been demonstrated by the company’s decision to roll out the Customer Relationship Management component within MCS-rm. After implementing CRM, the company’s is now no longer reliant on personal systems for recording sales calls and customer information, and now has a single, centralised system for sharing information securely in many parts of the business as well as streamlining the entire sales process.

In addition, future plans mean that Nixon’s Hire want to launch CRM on a mobile platform. IT Manager David Balmer comments: “Our sales people will instantly have all the data they need from MCS-rm on the move, without having to fire up their laptops. In today’s pressured environment, this is exactly the kind of capability that helps us to provide a rapid response to our customers.”

In another technological development, Nixon Hire is using MCS-rm Smart Alerts, the proactive business alerts are a very useful tool for working ‘smarter’. At the moment the business is using the alerts to flag up any exceptions. For instance, if hire controllers enter an incorrect price, this will be spotted instantly, rather than only coming to light in a report at the end of the day. Nixon Hire is also offering more customers the option of using the Customer Web Portal from MCS which seamlessly integrates with MCS-rm. David Balmer explains: “Customers can view information, such as their hire history, in a secure environment as often as they wish, without having to contact our offices. This means we can improve customer satisfaction without diverting our own resources.”

All these developments will help Nixon Hire retain its competitive edge and profitably meet the changing requirements of the market place.
